Wellness retreat holidays have been one of the most sought after holidays in recent years. The health and rejuvenation benefits it provides each person cannot be denied. Being able to relax and getaway at a beautiful destination holiday combined with being taken care of and having your health needs catered to does seem like the whole package. However, visiting a wellness retreat may not be in the cards for you right now. This should not come in the way of your wellness journey. For this purpose, we have compiled 5 ways you can prioritize your health and wellness while being at home.

1. Yoga

Yoga is a very popular discipline that helps with mindfulness and meditation. Wellness retreats have many various experts that help with practising various types of yoga to help you achieve your goal of controlling your body and mind. Thankfully, with easy access to online resources, your yoga experience will actually be quite easy. There are many tutorials on YouTube and other websites that help you with your yoga poses. Yoga is proven to have many different benefits such as easing arthritis, improving strength, balance & flexibility, helping back pain relief, relieving stress and boosting your mood and overall energy levels. So grab your mat, clear up some space and watch some tutorials and take your first step in diving into the world of yoga and wellness.

2. Guided meditation

If you have been feeling stressed, overwhelmed or lacking mental clarity, guided meditation may be what you need. Meditation is usually practised by people by focusing on a particular object or activity in order to achieve a mentally and emotionally calm and stable state. Guided meditation describes a form of meditation where the individual is helped to achieve or enhance a meditative state. This can be done either through a trained practitioner or teacher or through imagery, music, calming sounds etc. There are various apps that help you through this process as well and you can find them here. So if you want to work on focusing on the present, raising self-awareness and changing your perspective about situations, give guided meditation a try.

3. Exercise

I think we all know how important it is to exercise and how beneficial physical exercise can be to our body and mind. Exercising helps control weight, reduces the risk of heart disease, improves mental health and mood and even increases the quality of sleep. However, motivation to continue the program or start a new one is what most people struggle with when they do not have a personal trainer checking on them and pushing them. But fortunately, there are many fitness YouTubers and other social media personalities who post daily in order to help you work out with them. Additionally, there are apps that you can download and start plans with friends so that you can keep each other accountable in your fitness journey. What’s your excuse now?

4. Guided sleep

Sleep plays an important role in our health and wellbeing. It’s our ‘reset’ button, allowing our body to relax and rest in order to function well the next day again. But what if you are having trouble with it? Whether it’s disturbed sleep, insomnia, poor quality of sleep or any other issues, sleeping trouble is quite common. This is why there are many apps such as Headspace that provides a guided sleep program. Guided sleep helps you let go of any worrying thoughts you might have and relax your body before bed. Regular practice of guided meditation has been proved to reduce problems people may have with sleep. So give this a try and improve your sleeping patterns from the comfort of your home.

5. Guided relaxation

Amidst all the news we come across on social media and the toxic comments we might find out, our relaxation time might be quite stressful as well. But it is very important that we are able to tune out from the stresses on a regular basis and be able to completely relax. Guided relaxation provides you with assistance to reduce and eliminate stress, anxiety and depression from your life by encouraging positive thinking and helping you find inner stillness. The goal of this is quite different from meditation as it focuses on relaxation. And similar to all the other steps there are plenty of guides that can be found online to help you relax in a stress-free way.
